- Apprenticeship in traditional midwifery from September 06- March 2009 with A Special Delivery
- Training through National Association of Registered Midwives PEP program
-Attend weekly workshops with the lovely midwives of Association Services for Well Pregnancy
-Attended Midwifery Today Convention 2011
-Advanced Arts Midwifery skills certified in various courses 2009
Kathya started her journey into Midwifery after the natural hospital birth of her daughter, Summer Rain, in 2006. Shortly after the birth of her daughter she pursued an very active apprenticeship under two very busy midwives from 2006 to 2009. In that time she attended about 30-50 births a year. Including her time during training Kathya has attended approximately 160. Prior to undertaking her own clients Kathya learned all of the skills of caring for women before, during, and after their childbearing year. Kathya culminated the end of that apprenticeship with the homebirth of her son, Forest Benjamin, in 2009. She was already caring for her first pregnant mother and attended her first birth as a Midwife a month after giving birth herself. Kathya is passionate about all things baby and midwifery.
When Kathya is not catching babies she loves to spend time with her children learning to discover the world through their eyes, playing with her wonderful doggies Lucy and Thor, and enjoying her happily ever after with her lovely fiance Adam. She loves yoga, bike riding, NPR’s Science Fridays and Splendid Table, experimenting in the kitchen and reading Tuesday New York Times science edition.
