Prenatal Care

Being treated by the Midwifery Model of Care is very different from the Obstetric Model of Care. With Kathya’s Midwifery your care will consist of myself, Kathya Delaguila, MW and Kelli Sparkman, CPM LN. There is a possibility that there will be another student, but that is completely up to the family expecting a baby. At the visits (prenatal and postpartum) you will almost always have me there unless there is an emergency or I am at another birth. Kelli and I will be there for your birth and all subsequent postpartum exams. All prenatal, labor, and postpartum visits will be held in the comfort of your own home. I believe that having the visits in home really enable us to bond and help siblings get comfortable with the idea that a new baby is coming.

Labor and Birth

When your labor begins the personal care and attention that you have come to expect of your birth team will continue. I am on call for you and will plan with you when is the right time to come to your home. Often, early labor begins with an inicial assesment of labor. In this visit I will do a full examination of baby and mothers condition. Vaginal checks are done at your request. Also at that time we will discuss if its time to have your birth team at your house or if another asessment would be more appropriate. Through experience and research, we learned that women do much better surrounded by the people they trust in a comfortable enviroment. Your labor room can include candles, food, music, children, loved ones, and whatever you need to feel comfortable and safe.

Postpartum Care

The way midwives handle postpartum care really sets us apart from the standard Obstetric model. We go over once with in 24 hours (or earlier if needed), then again at 1 week, 2 week, and lastly at 6 weeks for last full physical and Pap. In between those visits we can still drop by if problems arise. In that time, we do your well baby care as well including heel stick test. The first three months after birth is often called the fourth trimester and I believe that longer postpartum care is a helpful tool in monitoring postpartum depression and continuing breastfeeding support, along with many other issues that may come up in your postpartum journey. We make ourselves available for new families Monday nights, Tuesday and Thursday mornings at The Associated Services for Well Pregnancy located 501 South Rancho Rd, Las Vegas, NV and are always available for phone support as well.
